What Does it Mean to “Follow Me”?
First let me begin by explaining my belief in using the proper names of our Father in Heaven and our Savior Yahusha HaMashiach.
יהושע This Hebrew script is the Name of our Messiah, Redeemer, and Savior!
“Yahusha” is His Hebrew name. He is Hebrew, not Greek.
Yahusha of the Re-Newed Covenant is Yahweh (YHWH) of the Tanakh.
Exo 3:15 And Elohim said further to Mosheh, “Thus you are to say to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘יהוה Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Yitshaq, and the Elohim of Yaʽaqob, has sent me to you. This is My Name forever, and this is My remembrance to all generations.’
The Hebrew script above is The Father in Heaven’s Name ! Translated it is the ‘Tetragrammatons’ YHWH : Yod Hey Waw Hey. Yahweh pronounced as; ee-ah-oo-aa
Here in Shemoth 3:15; Yahweh is declaring His Name to Mosheh (Moses) and He specifically states that Yahweh is His Name FOREVER! To all generations, not just Yisra’el, but to all.
Yahweh’s Name is used 6,823 times in the Scriptures. Only after the Yahudim were exiled to Babel and picked up many Pagan ‘Traditions’, was His Name brought to naught by the Jewish ‘Talmud’ teachings. From that point on the scribes began to change and remove the tetragrammaton (YHWH) from the ‘Tanach’ (OT). They (man) decided that Yahweh’s Name was too holy to speak. But Yahweh said; My Name is Yahweh and this is My Name forever.
Nowhere in Scripture are we taught that Yahweh’s Name should not be spoken! When, in the NT this is said by the Pharisees to not speak in this name, they referred to using YHWH as being blasphemous. But Yahusha taught that these ‘traditions’ were wrong.
Yahusha taught His emissaries (disciples) Yahweh's Name and He was brought to trial because of it. Steven was stoned to death because he used the Name of YHWH.
Notice in the following verses, never do the Scriptures ever say to call YHWH by a title other than El, Eloah or Elohim which are different forms of “Mighty One”.
The title ‘god’ comes from many pagan religions. Any false ‘deity’ was called ‘god’. Why would we want to call our Father by such a common title? He is above everything else on this earth or in Heaven. The word ‘lord’ is the English translation of “Ba’al”, the false god that is so often denounced in Scripture. Why would anyone want to call either YHWH or Yahusha by the name Ba’al?
Exo 9:16 “And for this reason I have raised you up, in order to show you My power, and in order to declare My Name in all the earth.
Lev 19:12 ‘And do not swear falsely by My Name and so profane the Name of your Elohim. I am יהוה.
Num 6:27 “Thus they shall put My Name on the children of Yisra’ĕl, and I Myself shall bless them.”
2Ch 7:14 and My people upon whom My Name is called, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I shall hear from the heavens, and forgive their sin and heal their land.
2Ch 7:16 “And now, I have chosen and set this house apart for My Name to be there forever. And My eyes and My heart shall always be there.
Neh 1:9 but if you shall turn back to Me, and guard My commands and do them, though you were cast out to the end of the heavens, I shall gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen, to make My Name dwell there.’
Psa 91:14 “Because he cleaves to Me in love, Therefore I deliver him; I set him on high, Because he has known My Name.
And these are among the most powerful statements in scripture on this issue!
Isa 42:8 “I am יהוה, that is My Name, and My esteem I do not give to another, nor My praise to idols.
Isa 52:6 “Therefore My people shall know My Name, in that day, for I am the One who is speaking. See, it is I.”
Jer 16:21 “Therefore see, I am causing them to know, this time I cause them to know My hand and My might. And they shall know that My Name is יהוה!”
Now we come to a reference of just what occurred in Babylon, and it continues to this day!
Jer 23:27 who try to make My people forget My Name by their dreams which everyone relates to his neighbour, as their fathers forgot My Name for Baʽal.
Ba'al is 'lord'
Yahweh’s Name has been “brought to naught” and forgotten and forbidden to be spoken for more than 2500 years. It is time Brothers and Sisters, to “Return to Me, and I will return to you.” Saith Yahweh!
Mal 1:6 “A son esteems his father, and a servant his master. And if I am the Father, where is My esteem? And if I am a Master, where is My fear? said יהוה of hosts to you priests who despise My Name. But you asked, ‘In what way have we despised Your Name?’
Answer! You call the Father by ‘pagan’ names!!
Mal 2:2 “If you do not hear, and if you do not take it to heart, to give esteem to My Name,” said יהוה of hosts, “I shall send a curse upon you, and I shall curse your blessings. And indeed, I have cursed them, because you do not take it to heart.
Let’s turn this ‘curse’ into ‘blessings’!
Mal 2:5 “My covenant with him was life and peace, and I gave them to him, to fear. And he feared Me, and stood in awe of My Name.
Mal 4:2 “But to you who fear My Name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings. And you shall go out and leap for joy like calves from the stall.
Yes, there will be suffering for doing this! I can personally attest to this as I am an outcast from every member of my family and all but a few close friends, who also think that I am a ‘religious fanatic’, and maybe I am but I have to tell you as I will say again, The joy and peace I have within me is present, even through all the suffering that this ‘world’ will bring.
Mat 10:22 “And you shall be hated by all for My Name’s sake. But he who shall have endured to the end shall be saved.
I will testify to you this; Since I came to the truth of the true Names of Yahusha and Yahweh, I have felt blessings tenfold of what I felt before. The Ruach HaQodesh (Set-Apart Spirit)has led me to so much more truth and a much closer relationship with my Messiah.
Yahusha said; “Come, follow Me”
Mat 4:18 And יהושע, walking by the Sea of Galil, saw two brothers, Shimʽon called Kĕpha, and Andri his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
Mat 4:19 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I shall make you fishers of men.”
Mat 4:20 And immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
Mat 4:21 And going on from there, He saw two other brothers, Yaʽaqob the son of Zabdai, and Yohanan his brother, in the boat with Zabdai their father, mending their nets. And He called them,
Mat 4:22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
Mat 16:24 Then יהושע said to His taught ones, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his stake, and follow Me.
Mat 19:20 The young man said to Him, “All these I have watched over from my youth, what do I still lack?”
Mat 19:21 יהושע said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven. And come, follow Me.”
Mat 19:22 And when the young man heard the word, he went away sad, because he had many possessions.
Mar 1:17 And יהושע said to them, “Come, follow Me, and I shall make you become fishers of men.”
Mar 8:34 And calling near the crowd with His taught ones, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his stake, and follow Me.
Mar 10:21 And יהושע, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One matter you lack: Go, sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven. And come, follow Me, taking up the stake.”
Luk 9:23 And He said to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his stake daily, and follow Me.
Luk 18:22 And hearing this, יהושע said to him, “Yet one you lack: Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven. And come, follow Me.”
Yahusha’s ‘taught ones’ (disciples) walked on Yahusha’s path every day for the rest of their lives, teaching and preaching in the Name of Yahusha and Yahweh. They ‘walked’ as He walked, they became perfect as He is perfect, and they became righteous as He is righteous. They did not do anything of their own power but by the power of Yahusha and the Ruach that was gifted to them because they continued to love Yahusha and therefore obeyed Him.
Yahusha said that if we are not willing to pick up the ‘stake’ and follow Him, leave the ‘world’ behind, including (if necessary) family and friends, then we are not worthy of Him.
To believe in Him is to love Him and He said; “If you love Me, you will obey Me”. Faith is ‘belief’, faith is 24/7/365!
Rev. 14:12; “Here is the endurance of the set apart ones (saints); those who guard the Torah of יהוה, and the belief in Yahusha.”
This single verse is telling us that we must follow, obey and stand up for both the Old Testament and the New Testament, which more accurately should read ‘Re-Newed’ Covenant.
Mat 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to complete.
Mat 5:18 “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.
The word ‘law’ in your ‘bible’ is an incorrect and very misleading translation of the word ‘Torah’, the first five Books of the ‘Tanakh’ or Old Covenant. The word ‘Torah’ means instruction or teaching, the commandments of YHWH, including the ‘Ten Commandments’ are given in the ‘Torah’.
1) anything established, anything received by usage, a custom, a law, a command
1a) of any law whatsoever
1a1) a law or rule producing a state approved of God
1a1a) by the observance of which is approved of God
1a2) a precept or injunction
1a3) the rule of action prescribed by reason
1b) of the Mosaic law, and referring, acc. to the context. either to the volume of the law or to its contents
1c) the Christian religion: the law demanding faith, the moral instruction given by Christ, especially the precept concerning love
1d) the name of the more important part (the Pentateuch), is put for the entire collection of the sacred books of the OT
Part of Speech: noun masculine
A Related Word by Thayer’s/Strong’s Number: from a primary nemo (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals)
Citing in TDNT: 4:1022, 646
I find it quite curious why it is that even here in the Greek concordance they will not use the term ‘Torah’ when by 1d) it clearly is. I believe this to be further denial of what is right. More ‘Paulinism’!
Yahusha says, in plain language here that as long as this present earth and the heavens that are above us (same ones as when He spoke these words) have disappeared, that not one word of the ‘Torah’ or the prophets will change. To fulfill does NOT mean to put an end to the Torah. The Torah is the Word of YHWH. Yohanan 1:1 reads; “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with Elohim and the Word was Elohim.” So, Yahusha is the Word and the ‘Goal’ of the Torah. This word ‘goal’ is rendered ‘end’ in Christian bibles which is another Pauline ‘trick’.
This seems to me to be a gross mistranslation of the word, and done purposely to uphold Paul’s notion that the ‘old law’ was done away with, or, ‘nailed to the cross’, taken from translating the Latin Vulgate (written by the Roman Catholic Church) and the so-called ‘church fathers’, who were the very theologians who took the world into the Dark Ages. Those same ‘church fathers’ are also claimed by the ‘protestant church’. Hmmmm!
The word ‘goal’ as in “The Scriptures 98” version is a more accurate translation of the ‘Greek’ translation, ‘Textus Receptus’. ‘Telos’ which means ‘goal’ or ‘purpose’.
Rom 10:4 For Messiah is the goal of the ‘Torah unto righteousness’ to everyone who believes.
Let’s compare this verse with the KJV;
Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.
This word, ‘end’ in the Greek is 'Telos’, let’s look at the concordance for its meaning;
1st from Strong’s Concordance;
From a primary word τέλλω tellō (to set out for a definite point or goal); properly the point aimed at as a limit, that is, (by implication) the conclusion of an act or state (termination [literally, figuratively or indefinitely], result [immediate, ultimate or prophetic], purpose); specifically an impost or levy (as paid): - + continual, custom, end (-ing), finally, uttermost. Compare G5411.
Primarily it is the “End Goal” not ‘the end’!
Here it seems Thayer’s has a extreme chistian view of the word Telos, but lastly also confirms that goal is a viable definition.
1a) termination, the limit at which a thing ceases to be (always of the end of some act or state, but not of the end of a period of time)
1b) the end
1b1) the last in any succession or series
1c) that by which a thing is finished, its close, issue
1d) the end to which all things relate, the aim, purpose
2) toll, custom (i.e. indirect tax on goods)
Part of Speech: noun neuter
A Related Word by Thayer’s/Strong’s Number: from a primary tello (to set out for a definite point or goal)
Citing in TDNT: 8:49, 1161
While ‘end’ or ‘termination’ can be one meaning, given the entirety of Yahusha’s meaning of when the ‘end’ is, wouldn’t 1d) be the more appropriate choice for this verse?
It should have been rendered correctly as ‘goal’ as it is in “The Scriptures”. For Yahusha was and IS, “The Word” made flesh and the ‘Word’ throughout the Scriptures, OT and NT, refers to the Torah, it makes no sense to make the assumption that He would be the ‘end’ of the Torah. Every Word must be kept in context and in common truth. NOTHING from the Torah can be changed until Yahweh changes it when we get a new Heaven and a new earth. And then, His Torah will not change, but how we understand it will; written on our hearts and in our minds rather than on parchment or in stone.
I am of the camp that believes that the ‘Original’ Messianic writings (NT), were written in Hebrew or Aramaic, not Greek, but those original documents were either lost, destroyed by the Romans during the destruction of Yerushalayim in 70 -125 CE or they are hidden away by the apostate Roman Catholic Church, which is highly possible.
My opinion only, duly said and acknowledged!
Another witness to Yahusha teaching and upholding the Torah is in the teaching of the woman who had a blood disease and risked her very life by entering the city to merely touch the TziTzit on Yahusha’s garment. This is when Yahusha felt the power go out, through the TziTzit. An obvious focal point, to me!
Yahusha wore TziTzit! Why? What are TziTzit? Of course, Christianity again denies the Hebrew-ness of the Scriptures and changes the words TziTzit to simply ‘the corner’ of His garment.
Num 15:37 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Num 15:38 “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and you shall say to them to make tzitziyot on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue cord in the tzitzit of the corners.
Num 15:39 “And it shall be to you for a tzitzit, and you shall see it, and shall remember all the commands of יהוה and shall do them, and not search after your own heart and your own eyes after which you went whoring,
Num 15:40 so that you remember, and shall do all My commands, and be set-apart unto your Elohim.
Num 15:41 “I am יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your Elohim. I am יהוה your Elohim.”
So, Yahusha taught Torah!
Therefore, to teach or to believe that we are now exempt from the Old Covenant teachings or the ‘Torah’ (law), is either teaching a lie or believing in vain!
Our salvation is not based on a single act or ‘event’ and then set aside, going your own way, and standing on promises of ‘the church’ or the man in the pulpit.
We are saved by ‘favour’ (grace) THROUGH FAITH. ‘Through faith’ means an active participation on our part, hence, “ENDURANCE”. Rev 14:12, as stated above.
To ‘endure’, is to stick with something. We must run the race to win, you can’t step out of the running and find your own way to the finish line! Yahusha said, we must follow Him. It is, after all, His race, His race track and He established the route; the “Narrow Path”. His path is not burdensome, contrary to the church teachings. As long as one remains on the path, the stumbling blocks have been cleared away and removed. He prompts us through the truth and the instructions of His Word to remain on the path. He does not force anyone to stay. He desires that we come to Him, willingly, and remain willingly! The stumbling blocks are many if you choose to remain and live ‘in the world’, He calls us out of ‘the world’ and we are to live a life separated from the ‘world’. The “desire” of Yahweh is that we all come to repentance and be saved, if one has unrepentant sin he will not enter the Kingdom of Yahweh.
The adversary has many of his own emissaries, “wolves in sheep’s clothing”, disguised as ‘holy men and women’. The church is full of them! The Scriptures plainly tell us that if they do not teach righteousness, do not follow them.
These false teachers and false prophets are lined up along both sides of the ‘narrow path’, doing everything in their power to draw you off Yahusha’s path, some knowingly and some unknowingly, but through their own having been deceived. So if you find yourself stumbling, know that you have gotten off track. Also know that it is the Ruach HaQodesh (His Spirit) within you that is making you aware of your error, and only by confession and repentance may you re-enter the path.
I testify to these things, knowing that speaking these words to you and others, I am taking on the responsibility and judgment for my words by Yahusha when judgment day comes.
I also testify to these things through my own experiences and witness of the blessings of inner joy and peace that is present, even through the sufferings brought on by this wicked world. The wisdom He bestows on me is not within me to know but by His ‘anointing’, as He has promised to those who seek His Face. The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom and as I learned some years ago; The ‘fear’ of Yahweh is that I love Him so much, I would never want to do anything to hurt Him. Our sins break Yahweh’s heart.
Another absolute truth that I have come to understand is that our freedom lies in following the ‘law’ or the ‘Torah’
As an example of this teaching, I will use the following, trivial and secular, but easily understandable illustration.
Two automobiles are traveling down the road, one (who believes that the law is to be ignored, disregarded or no longer applies), is driving faster than the posted speed limit of 70 mph. They are passing every car on the road and switching lanes to go around everyone they come upon. They know that they are breaking the law and do not want to get caught and have to pay a heavy fine and or have to answer to a judge. So, they must keep looking in their rear-view mirror and behind every billboard they pass. They have to watch at every overpass they come upon to see if a cop is entering the highway. They are so distracted by all this they cannot possibly be truly focused on anything else but themselves and they are also putting everyone else on the road in danger, when something happens, and it will, they are disgruntled and a host of added sins may ensue.
Is this what ‘Freedom’ is? Free to do as you please, is there true satisfaction in this? Shouldn’t ‘freedom’ feel good?
The other driver however, sets the cruise control to 70 mph and obeys the traffic laws, is courteous of others on the road and is much more aware of what is around them. This person is truly ‘free’. They can enjoy the countryside and surroundings and be totally relaxed in that they are not going to be pulled over and be issued a citation. They have nothing to fear from ‘the law’.
This brothers and sisters is ‘freedom’ and it feels wonderful!
Joh 10:25 יהושע answered them, “I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s Name, they bear witness concerning Me.
Joh 10:26 “But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.
Joh 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
Joh 10:28 “And I give them everlasting life, and they shall by no means ever perish, and no one shall snatch them out of My hand.
Joh 10:29 “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. And no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
Joh 10:28 and 29 are often used by the ‘church’ to prove that once you say that ‘sinners prayer’ that you are saved and nothing or no one can take that away from you, even your own sin.
But, let’s take a look at the verses that precedes; Joh 10:26 & 27. We must keep scripture in context! Who is Yahusha speaking about?? My sheep! And notice that His sheep as He says; FOLLOW ME!!
His sheep will:
Joh 15:4 “Stay in Me, and I stay in you. As the branch is unable to bear fruit of itself, unless it stays in the vine, so neither you, unless you stay in Me.
Joh 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who stays in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit. Because without Me you are able to do naught!
Joh 15:6 “If anyone does not stay in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up. And they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
Joh 15:7 “If you stay in Me, and My Words stay in you, you shall ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.
Joh 15:8 “In this My Father is esteemed, that you bear much fruit, and you shall be My taught ones.
Joh 15:9 “As the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Stay in My love.
Joh 15:10 “If you guard My commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father’s commands and stay in His love.
Joh 15:11 “These words I have spoken to you, so that My joy might be in you, and that your joy might be complete.
Yahusha said to His ‘taught one’s’, “Come, Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.”
HalleluYah!! Which means; Praise be to Yahweh!!
